Students were grouped and assigned two Georgia animals. Students were asked to plan, construct and analyze a habitat model that would allow their assigned animals to thrive! After students constructed their habitats, they presented them to the class!

Below, is a video demonstrating three methods to solving a three-digit addition problem.
Students have the opportunity to master three fractions standards:
During our unit for Elapsed Time, students had the opportunity to solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals to the nearest minute.
One of our 3rd grade standards is to know at least 85 multiplication facts by the end of the year. Students use multiple ways to practice their facts! This nine weeks students will focus on Informational writings. Students are presented with a topic, asked to research that topic & turn their findings into a solid informational writing... Our topic this week was LEAVES. To kick off our Rocks & Minerals unit, students not only found their own rock samples but they analyzed them to determine the different properties! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to my all of my awesome classroom parents for making our Fall Celebration a blast for our 3rd graders!! Last week we surprised our beautiful 3rd grade student teacher with handmade birthday cards and a grade level birthday song in the hallway! She cried, so our mission was complete!
To motivate us for Poole's Spooky STEM night, all students were allowed to go to a science assembly with a real scientist! We saw cool experiments and had the opportunity to buy some of the things she showed us! Students began mastering the Main Idea reading standard by... 1) reading The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown 2) taking the format of the text and mapping out how the main idea was shown 3) creating their own classroom version of The Important Book. As an opening activity to our Rocks and Minerals unit, students participated in an online discussion board, called Padlet! Students usually fill out a KWL chart on paper, but the online version was more engaging and gave students an opportunity to share their knowledge with their classmates! As we are wrapping up our text study of Paul Revere, students were asked to summarize Revere's Midnight Ride using sketch notes. Thank you to EVERYONE who came out to support our PTA's annual Fall Festival! It was a huge success and everyone's favorite booth was super fun!!
Students learned the special text features found in a nonfiction text AND how to implement reasearch to find facts about a specific topic. To wrap up our Soils unit, students build YUMMY models of the three layers of soil! At the beginning of our Rocks & Minerals unit, we studied the elements, texture and function of the different types of soils! We would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to the Rotary Club of Dallas for presenting our 3rd graders with their very own dictionaries!!! Our kiddoes LOVED looking up fun words and how to use them! |
